High-Speed Dinosaur Adventure

By Richard Stubbs · September 23, 2026

Seven-year-old Tyler and nine-year-old Jordyn bounced down the stairs at 7 Stichwort Lane in Ashford, backpacks packed with sketchbooks, pencils, and emergency snacks. After a hearty breakfast of toast and scrambled eggs prepared by Mum Michaela, the family set off on an extraordinary Saturday expedition to the heart of London!

All Aboard at Ashford International

A short, cheerful walk brought the family to the magnificent Ashford International station, its grand sweeping glass and steel roof gleaming in the sunlight. Sleek, futuristic trains hummed quietly on the tracks below.

"Hold onto your tickets and keep close!" — Dad Warren

Seconds later, the Southeastern Highspeed train glided smoothly into the platform like a silver bullet, coming to a gentle, whisper-quiet halt. Tyler and Jordyn pressed their faces eagerly against the clean windows as the train accelerated away.

The 37-Minute Journey

140 mph

The high-speed rail zoomed through tunnels and across viaducts, cutting through miles of Kentish countryside — faster than it takes to bake a potato!

Emerald Fields & Rolling Orchards

Houses melted away, replaced by a vibrant blur of emerald-green Kentish fields, rolling orchards, and distant grazing sheep rushing past the windows.

37 Minutes Exactly

Before Tyler could finish asking "how much further?", the announcement chimed: "We are now arriving at London St Pancras International."

Arriving at St Pancras

Stepping onto the grand, bustling concourse of St Pancras, the children gazed up in awe at the soaring Victorian architecture and the giant bronze statue of lovers embracing beneath the high glass roof.

Their adventure was only just beginning. Exiting the station, they hopped onto a bright red London double-decker bus, climbing eagerly to the front seats of the top deck as it trundled through lively London streets, passing historic squares and famous monuments.

A Magical Cathedral for Ancient Giants

The bus deposited them right outside the magnificent terracotta arches of the Natural History Museum in South Kensington — a building that looked like a magical cathedral built for ancient giants.

Pushing open the heavy wooden doors, Jordyn and Tyler stepped into the cathedral-like Hintze Hall. Their jaws dropped in unison as they looked up at 'Hope' — a colossal, 94-foot-long blue whale skeleton suspended majestically from the vaulted ceiling.

"It's even bigger than Granddad's cattery!" — Tyler

Enter the Dinosaur Exhibition

The atmosphere shifted dramatically as the family navigated to the world-famous Dinosaur Exhibition. Lighting dimmed to a mysterious, misty twilight, and low rumbling echoes vibrated through the floorboards.

Around the corner stood a towering, life-sized Tyrannosaurus rex — razor-sharp teeth, blinking yellow eyes — letting out a mechanical, bone-shaking roar that sent Tyler leaping straight into Dad Warren's arms!

Exploring the Ancient World

Jordyn eagerly opened her sketchbook, meticulously drawing the sharp curves of a Triceratops skull, while Tyler examined fossilized claws behind glass display cases.

Feathered Raptors

Marveling at the surprising connection between ancient dinosaurs and modern birds.

Armored Stegosauruses

Studying the iconic plated giants that roamed the earth millions of years ago.

Fossilized Ferns

Delicate plant fossils that lived long before humans ever walked the earth.

The Journey Home

As afternoon faded into evening, the family retraced their steps — Underground back to St Pancras, then the swift, smooth high-speed train home. The Kentish countryside rushed past in reverse, green fields turning amber under the descending twilight.

Home Sweet Home

Back at 7 Stichwort Lane, Jack the ginger tabby and Joey the black-and-white cat greeted them with sleepy meows, while Barnaby the rabbit twitched his nose happily in his hutch. After a comforting supper, Tyler and Jordyn curled up on the sofa to wind down.

Before drifting off, they switched on the tablet for a bedtime video call to Granddad Richard at Waterfall Kennels in Fourways, South Africa. Tyler held up a small plastic T-rex and beamed brightly.

"Granddad, we rode the bullet train to London today and met a real dinosaur! We're ready for our next adventure whenever you are!"
