The Full Journey at a Glance
Your Installation Roadmap
Follow these six straightforward steps and you'll have Gemini up and running in under five minutes. Each step is covered in detail on the following cards.
Step 1 — Android Users
Open the Google Play Store
On your Android device, locate the Google Play Store — it's the colourful triangle icon usually found on your home screen or in your app drawer. Tap it to open.

If you can't find the Play Store, swipe down from the top of your screen and type "Play Store" in the search bar.
Make sure you're connected to the internet before proceeding. You'll see the Play Store's home page load with featured apps and games.

The Play Store comes pre-installed on virtually all Android phones — no additional setup needed.
Step 1 — iPhone Users
Open the Apple App Store
On your iPhone or iPad, find the App Store — it's the blue icon with a white letter "A" made of sticks. You'll typically find it on your home screen or in a folder.

Can't find it? Swipe down on your home screen and type "App Store" into Spotlight Search.
Tap the App Store icon to open it. You'll land on the Today tab. Make sure your device is connected to Wi-Fi or mobile data for the best download experience.

The App Store is pre-installed on all iPhones and iPads running iOS 16 and above.
Step 2
Search for "Gemini"
On Android (Play Store)
Tap the search bar at the top of the Play Store. Type "Gemini" and tap the search icon or press Enter on your keyboard. Look for the result labelled Gemini — chat with AI published by Google LLC.
On iPhone (App Store)
Tap the Search tab at the bottom of the App Store (magnifying glass icon). Type "Gemini" into the search field. Look for Gemini — Chat with AI with the Google "G" logo, published by Google LLC.

Always verify the publisher is Google LLC to avoid downloading unofficial or counterfeit apps.
Step 3
Tap "Install" or "Get"
Start the Download
Once you've found the correct Gemini app in the store, tap the green "Install" button (Android) or the blue "Get" button (iPhone) to begin downloading.
You may be prompted to confirm with your fingerprint, face ID, or Google/Apple account password. This is a standard security check — go ahead and confirm.

The app is approximately 80–150 MB. Download time depends on your internet speed — typically under 60 seconds on Wi-Fi.
A progress bar or loading ring will appear as the app downloads and installs automatically. Do not close the App Store or Play Store while this is in progress.
Step 3 — Continued
Wait for the Download to Complete
01
Download Begins
The "Install" / "Get" button changes to show a download progress indicator.
02
App Installs Automatically
Once downloaded, the app installs itself. No extra taps needed at this stage.
03
Button Changes to "Open"
When complete, the button changes to "Open" — your signal that Gemini is ready.
Step 4
Open the Gemini App
Two Ways to Open It
From the Store
Tap the "Open" button directly in the Play Store or App Store once the installation finishes.
From Your Home Screen
Find the new Gemini icon on your home screen or app drawer and tap it to launch.
The Gemini app will launch and display its welcome screen with a colourful animated logo. This is perfectly normal — it's just initialising for the first time.
Step 5
Sign In With Your Google Account
If You Already Have a Google Account
Tap "Sign in with Google" on the welcome screen. A list of Google accounts already on your device will appear. Tap your preferred account to continue. You may be asked to confirm your identity via fingerprint, face unlock, or your account password.
If You're New to Google
Tap "Create account" on the sign-in screen and follow the prompts to set up a free Google account. You'll need a name, a new Gmail address, and a secure password. The whole process takes about three minutes.
Step 5 — Continued
Accept the Terms & Permissions
What You'll Be Asked to Agree To
After signing in, Gemini will display its Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Take a moment to review them, then tap "I Agree" or "Accept" to proceed.
You may also be asked to allow certain permissions such as microphone access (for voice input) and notifications. These are optional but recommended for the best experience.

You can adjust all permissions later in your phone's Settings → Apps → Gemini at any time.

Write Better Prompts
Be specific and descriptive when asking Gemini a question. Instead of "write an email," try "write a polite follow-up email to a client who hasn't responded in a week." The more context you give, the better the answer.
You can also ask Gemini to refine its own response — just type "make it shorter" or "explain it more simply."
